Our Lady of Penrhys, Ferndale

The last public Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Penrhys, Ferndale, was celebrated on 11th April 2010.

Sadly, for economic reasons, it is no longer viable to maintain all three churches in the Catholic Rhondda Parish in a fit state for public worship.

All services for the Rhondda Parish now take place at Ss Gabriel and Raphael, Tonypandy, which retains responsibility for administering baptisms, marriages and other sacramental care for residents of Ferndale and Penrhys.

For reasons of transport, worshippers may find it easier to access services in the parish of Ynyshir with Tonyrefail.

An open-air shrine, marked by a statue of Our Lady of Penrhys, stands on the site of a pre-Reformation shrine to the Blessed Virgin on the top of near-by Penrhys hill.
