Directions to the Shrine of Our Lady of PenrhysRoad (from London, Cardiff and the M4 Corridor) Road (from the Heads of the Valleys)

By busBuses run from Porth Town Centre to Penrhys on a regular basis from Bus Stop C (see map). The service is no. 155 to Ferndale.
By road from London and the M4 Corridor in South-East Wales.Take the M4 to Junction 32, the Coryton Interchange, where you take the A470 Northbound to Merthyr. (Or if starting from central Cardiff, pick up the A470 towards Methyr and cross the M4.) Take the FIFTH exit after the M4, which is signposted for the Rhondda Valleys, also Pontypridd A4058. Follow signs for the Rhondda Valleys. Pass Pontypridd railway station on left and enter gyratory. Take SECOND exit (Rhondda vallies). Travel for approx. 2.5 miles. At Rhondda Heritage Park Hotel roundabout, take SECOND exit signposted Porth, Rhondda Valleys. At roundabout take THIRD exit signposted Aberdare (A4233). At roundabout take SECOND exit signposted Aberdare (A4233). At roundabout take SECOND exit signposted Aberdare (A4233). At roundabout take FIRST exit - Penrhys Road (B4512). At the top of the hill the shrine is on the left. The car park is signposted "St Mary's Well".
By road from the Heads of the Valleys.The Heads of the Valleys Road is the A465. If coming from Merthyr, at crossroads, turn left onto Merthyr Road (B4276). Turn left onto Llwydcoed Road (B4276). Eventually road changes into A4059. If coming from Neath, take A4059 exit off the Hirwaun bypass. At roundabout take FIRST exit signposted Cardiff (A470). At roundabout take SECOND exit signposted Aberdare Town Centre (A4233). At roundabout take FIRST exit (A4233). At roundabout take FIRST exit signposted Maerdy Town Centre (A4233). In 300 yards turn right onto Victoria Square. In 70 yards turn left onto Monk Street. At roundabout take THIRD exit - Penrhys Road (B4512) At the top of the hill the shrine is on the left. The car park is signposted "St Mary's Well".
Travel by TrainPenrhys does not have a train station. If you plan on making the journey by train, you may get a train from Cardiff Central to Porth then collect a bus service (no. 155) to Penrhys from Bus Stop C in Porth town centre. |
