Welcome to Saints Gabriel and Raphael Church, Tonypandy


Saints Gabriel and Raphael is the church of the "Rhondda Parish", which covers all of the Rhondda Fach and Rhondda Fawr, expect for Ynyshir which is served by our sister church St Mary Magdalene.  Located on Trinity Road, the church is just off the main road of Dunraven Street.

Tonypandy is located in the valley of Rhondda Fawr.  As is typical of most South Wales Valley communities, the community at Tonypandy is both a close knit and welcoming community.  You would be very welcome to join us for any of our services.


The parish is cared for by the Sisters of St Joseph of Annecy - Sister Berenice and Sister Joanne.

Third Sunday of Eastertide - 1st May 2022

Mass for Canon Patrick Daly

On Saturday 21 st May at All Hallows, Llantrisant, there will be a special Mass at 12.00 noon to receive the ashes of Canon Patrick Daly. Canon’s ashes will be preserved in the crypt in All Hallows Church.

Archbishop of Cardiff.

Archbishop George Stack will soon be retiring from The Diocese of Cardiff. He will be replaced by Bishop Mark O’Toole of Plymouth Diocese. We thank Archbishop Stack for his faithful service to this Diocese. He will be living in Caerleon and will continue to help out in the Diocese.

5th Sunday of Lent - 3rd April 2022

Father Allan Davies-Hale will be covering for Masses in both churches during the month of April commencing on Sunday 3 rd April. We thank all the clergy who take it in turns to come and celebrate Mass for us. It is greatly appreciated.


3rd Sunday of Lent - 20th March 2022

Holy Hour

Pope Francis has asked the world to pray for an end to the war in Ukraine. To this effect we are organising an Hour of Prayer and Adoration in Ss Gabriel & Raphael’s Church, on Sun 20 th March, time 5.00pm to 6.00pm. Everyone is welcome to come and join us in prayer. If you are unable to stay for the whole hour please feel free to come for part of it.


1st Sunday of Lent- 6th March 2022

First Holy Communion; 

If your child is in Year 3 or above and would like to make
his/her First Holy Communion this year, a meeting will be held on Tue 15th March at Ss Gabriel & Raphael Catholic Primary School at 3:45pm. Please collect an application form from the school office or the Sisters in Church.
Sacrament of Confirmation;
This is scheduled to take place in Ss Gabriel & Raphael’s Church on Sunday 12th June 2022. The next Confirmation class will be on Sat 26th March at 3pm.
Synod 2021-2023;
A parish meeting has been arranged for today Sun March 6th 10.30 to
11.30am, Ynyshir. Please attend if possible. All completed questionnaires need to be returned this weekend and placed in the box marked ‘Synod’. Thank You.

1. If you could change one thing in your parish what would it be and why?

2. What do you think works well and makes you proud to be a member of your parish?

3. How can participation be broadened and strengthened in the life of your parish as we move forward into the future.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary time - 30th January 2022

Synod 2023 - How can I be part of this process? The Synod is a wakeup call to all of humanity. Pope Francis is asking us to wake up, to let go of apathy and see that we have an opportunity of transforming ourselves and our Church of the future. A synodal process at this time is not just a church exercise . It is a call to renew the world. Pope Francis has reminded us “If the Spirit is not present there will be no Synod” We can pray every day ‘Lord, what do you want of us’

Third Sunday in Ordinary time - 23rd January 2022

The first lesson for those who wish to be confirmed in Ss Gabriel and Raphael’s Church, in June 2022, took place in the Church at 3pm on Saturday 22nd January. The next meeting will be on Sat 26th February.

Baptism of the Lord - 9th January 2022

28th November - First Sunday of Advent

Two representatives from our parish Katrina Rees and Alun Rees are undergoing specific training in preparation for the forthcoming Synod in Rome in 2023. As part of the Universal Church it is essential that every parish is engaged in discerning a vision for the church of the future. To this end we will be arranging meetings for all parishioners after Christmas and we hope that as many people as possible will attend and be involved in the process. Dates of these meetings will be arranged later. Katrina and Alun will be facilitating these meetings and we thank them for their generosity in taking on this role.

Update on private prayer during coronavirus


The church is now open for private prayer every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30am -11am. It will also open up on a Wednesday evening 5pm-6pm for those who are in work.
